In the article on About.com it says that it should be unacceptable for blindness to be used as a stand-in for depravity, incompetence, and lack of understanding." I agree with this statement. I think it is horrible that the only character in the movie that is able to “save the day” is also able to see. The trailer also made it seem like the movie Blindness was a “thriller” or a “horror” film. This makes it seem as though becoming blind is a scary thing and something to fear.
I do agree with the film in one way, I am sure that becoming blind instead of being born blind must be a whole different challenge. You must re-learn basic skills of life and although being blind to begin with is a huge obstacle, becoming blind after being able to see must be incredibly difficult. I’m sure that the movie represents how people that have recently become blind have difficulty learning new things, however the trailer made it seem as though they also portray these people as being disgusting, incompetent failures. This is such an unfortunate thing to teach. I think it would be interesting to have a documentary made about blindness. Something that is accurate and non-stereotypical. I am interested to see the film to see the ways they portray people that are blind, however I do not want to contribute to increasing the profit made from the movie.

I think it may be difficult to become blind after seeing - but I think this movie takes it to the extreme. If you really want to see the film - think about viewing it and then writing an editorial or something discussing your feelings about it after you saw it. I agree it is hard to give money to Disney for this movie - but you can also take a stand after seeing it and hopefully readers will see this and you may spark some great discussion and critical thought among viewers.
