Activity on QTTP Questions and Themes

I would just to take a second and reflect on the activity we did in class on Tuesday. I feel that this was an extremely beneficial lesson. We were able to see everyone’s questions from throughout the course. This not only introduced new themes of the books, but it also clarified if I had been thinking about the books in the correct ways. I was in the GLBT group and discussed Boy Meets Boy. Most of the questions related to stereotypes of characters in the novel or why the author chose to create two different “worlds”. One thing I would have liked to have different about doing this activity is that I wish we did it after discussing each book. Its difficult to remember everything about the first books we read, and I feel that if we discussed it after we read the books we would have had a better discussion. Discussing the questions and themes after each book also would have allowed us to know if we were analyzing the books in the correct ways. Once you read someone’s question that views the book in a different way you are able to become more creative with your questions. For example, when we were reviewing are questions, the majority of them were about stereotypes. There were a few, however, about things such as relationships and class, that we had not even thought about. If we had discussed questions and themes after reading the first book, we could have been introduced to great questions that we could also look at when reading the other books. Overall I really did enjoy this activity, I just wish we could have done it after reading each novel.
